About 540 miles west of Denver, in the Wasatch Mountains -

    Alta Ski Resort, UT
Alta Mountain is one of seven ski resorts within 40 miles of the Salt Lake City airport — read more about Salt Lake City skiing. Alta is a skiers-only mountain! And has a great rep. Stay at the Alta Lodge: an old-style kind of place where guests meet over meals.

    Deer Valley, Utah
Kidz’n'Snow.com calls this top spot near Salt Lake City: “the ultimate ski experience. You are catered to from the moment of your arrival. Indulge! Fine food, exquisite service – and buffed terrain.” Five peaks; and the number of visitors is limited. Children’s Center provides activities for non-skiers too, age 2 months to 12-years old.

    Solitude Ski Resort, UT
Solitude Ski Resort – 28 miles from the Salt Lake City airport– has two big pluses for families: the Snowsports Academy Ski School, and an attractive “village” with lodgings and leisure facilities (mini-theater, outdoor pools…)

    As well as
    Snowbird
    Brighton
    Park City Mountain
    The Canyons
    Powder Mountain
    Snow Basin

Perhaps you noticed these during the 2002 Winter Olympics – kind of cool to ski the Olympic venues.

For family areas Winter Park is good and Breckenridge is as well. It really depends on your family and level of skiing ability. Copper is great as well. I would check websites for packages that might be available as it will really depend on what kind of things you are looking for and how many people/ages are coming.

Sunlight, in Glenwood. Monarch Pass. Steamboat Springs or if you want a bit cheaper, I would suggest Snowy Range just West of Larime, Wyo.
Look for Gold C coupons for any of the ski areas in the Vail valley and Steamboat. Also I think there are car rental coupons there as well.
    Good luck, enjoy your trip!!!

Steamboat is very family oriented. Their website has a vacation planner which you can use online or call one of their travel specialists and book the hotel, flight, ski lift tickets, ski lessons and just about everything else.

Crested Butte. Small, intimate town. Nice people, pretty good packages for Condos (not so much for hotels, although there are some). You can be absolutely certain that your kids are safe at all times and let them go without worry. Good bus transporation to and from the ski area and into the town. You can fly into Gunnison and catch a bus to the ski area; you don’t need a car.

Ski area is pretty small relative to the huge resorts. Hardly ever a lift line. Great snowshoeing and there is a nordic ski park if you are wanting that. Snowboards are OK and there is a snowboard park.
