Denver Marriott City Center Feeds 9/11 Memorial Firefighter Stair Climb with Lunch for Firefighters, Police and Friends

For the 6th consecutive year, the Denver Marriott City Center is supporting todays 110-story 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb by 343 Denver-area firefighters with a buffet lunch on the hotel plaza across the street from the event.

The event will draw about 1000 guests, (the stair climb participants along with police officers, family and friends). All are invited to enjoy food and refreshments prepared by hotel staff, with the City Centers executive management team manning the grills.

On the 11th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, firefighters will TWICE climb 55 stories in the CenturyLink tower to memorialize their 343 New York Fire Department brothers who perished in the 110-story World Trade Center. The event has grown from just five firefighters to an annual event capped at the symbolic 343 participants.

We are pleased, again this year, to support the remembrance of those sacrifices and the commitment to safety through physical fitness by providing lunch after this arduous 110-story stair climb.

The purpose of the annual Denver metro firefighters 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is to remember the 343 firefighters who gave their lives on September 11, 2001, so that others could live. In addition, firefighters who take part in the event are demonstrating their commitment to the physical and mental preparation needed to protect others from harm. They climb the stairs in the same gear, carrying the same type of equipment that their New York brethren carried on 9/11 the same gear these Denver-area firefighters carry into fire buildings on a daily basis.

The Denver Memorial Stair Climb began in 2005 with five fire firefighters at 1999 Broadway. The next year it grew to 12 participants and moved to the 54-story CenturyLink tower at 1801 California Street, where firefighters climb twice from the basement to achieve the 110-story mark.

Todays event will begin with a moment of silence at 9:00 a.m., with firefighters stepping off in groups of companies soon thereafter.

After the climb, the Denver Marriott City Center executive team will host lunch consisting of burgers, grilled chicken, hot dogs, potato salad and ice cream, along with refreshments for all climbers. K&M Meats, Gourmet Foods Inc, Shamrock Foods Robinson Dairy, European Imports and Freshpoint have all graciously donated items for the event.
