Question by energyconcious: What is a good US Ski resort for 1st time family Christmas vacation – easily reachable (1 flight) from Texas?
I want to take my family of five on a Skiing vacation starting December 24th so including Christmas day and staying for about 5 days. Our criteria are:
- Prefer resort-style facilites (spa, shopping etc.) for one family member that will not ski much (if at all)
- Would like somewhere to celebrate Christmas (Chistmas meals etc.)
- Needs to include easy slopes, family friendly ameneties, somewhere to take ski lessons
- Ideally somewhere we can get driving from Austin, TX or within short flying distances (flying to Colorado is ok for example)
Some friends have suggested driving to Ruidoso, NM but I wouldn’t want to drive much further and most of the accommodation there is condo-style.
Suggestions appreciated!
Would appreciate comments specific to spending Christmas Day at a ski resort.

Look at the Front Range resorts of Colorado, like Winter Park, Breckenridge, Keystone, etc which are a short shuttle from Denver. Or the Utah resorts accessible from Salt Lake. Another thought is the Tahoe resorts, which are a short ride from Reno.
