Question by : vacation in Colorado, looking for mountain resorts?
Hello, I’m Italian (sorry if I’m wrong writing).
Always dream vacation in Colorado. I like your beautiful rocky mountains, forests, bears. I like taking walks in the mountains.
Please say a beautiful place to go?
Thank you!

There are literally hundreds of locations you could go to all over central Colorado. Hiking trails are also plentiful. Finding bears is a bit more difficult. They are all over but tend to be a bit reclusive. You also don’t want to see one up close and personal. They are wild animals after all, very large and can cause serious injury if they are startled or frightened.

Some things to consider. How acclimated are you to high altitudes? Denver is over 5000′ and much of the high country is over 8000′. There are spectacular hikes throughout lower elevations as well if you think that many be a problem.

Take a look at the Colorado Trail. Any portion will be well maintained and offer great hiking venues

PowderQuest, Ski & Snowboard Tour Operator, Announces Excitement Regarding Massive Overhaul of Road to Chiles Three Top Ski Resorts

gI 93366 farellones road PowderQuest, Ski & Snowboard Tour Operator, Announces Excitement Regarding Massive Overhaul of Road to Chiles Three Top Ski Resorts
Richmond, VA (PRWEB) April 25, 2012

A modern, three-lane road to Santiago Chiles ski resorts is planned for 2014, replacing the narrow, worn and often crowded G21 to Farellones.

The 30km long road, with a value of US70 million, is intended to eliminate the need for snow chains via a specially designed asphalt with greater traction that expands or contracts depending on the climatic conditions.

This would avoid the cracking of asphalt and creation of massive potholes, which is currently a big problem for the road to Farellones and the three major ski resorts.

This is great news for winter visitors to Chile, says David Owen of PowderQuest, operator of ski and snowboard tours in South America. Currently, the access road for Farellones/El Colorado, Valle Nevado and La Parva, has a total of 348 curves and on a weekend powder day it can take a while to get up the hill. The new road will really speed up the trip and make it a lot easier.

The new project aims to reduce the number of curves on the famously precarious mountain road to 114.

The new road is also designed with ice and snow detectors which send updates to a management center so that route management can be better planned. This will also allow teams to work quickly on potential avalanche sites and help avoid accidents and road closures.

Three lanes mean that the center lane can be bi-directional depending on peak demand, or outside of main transit hours, a side land could be dedicated to cyclists and pedestrians.

Minister of Public Works Laurence Golborne announced earlier this month that bids will soon be opened for companies to work on the road improvements.

The mayor of Lo Barnechea and tourism groups are elated, as they have been lobbying for this road project for more than two years; says David.

The bid should be awarded by November 2012 and construction is expected to take 2 years.

The road will have a new toll on curve number 40 (Plazoleta del Viento). The amount has not yet been set, but is expected to be around 7000 to 10000 pesos (US$ 14 to $ 20) for people who are accessing the ski resorts. Renting chains at the bottom of the hill currently costs 10000 pesos.

The modern project has a total value of around US$ 70 million. US$ 5 million worth of land is coming from the local council. US$ 2 million has been contributed by Valle Nevado, the largest South America ski area. The other two resorts, La Parva y El Colorado/Farellones have each put forward US$ 1 million, as has mining company Anglo American.
